House fire in Casey Drive Berwick

Picture: Nicole Garmston Det Sen-Constable Stephen Boyle said investigators were probing the cause of the explosion which may have been triggered by a gas cylinder. Detectives from the Arson and Explosives squad, officers from the Clandestine Laboratory Sqaud and forensic staff are at the scene. "The CFA have definitely said there's been a gas cylinder of some sort that's burnt," Det Sen-Constable Boyle said. "The garage is totally destroyed. My understanding is the roof of the house has collapsed in on the house so it's fully destroyed." Det Sen-Constable Boyle said it was too early to say if there was any link between the home owner and the person whose body was found. "Obviously he's just lost his house. He is quite distraught. He is extremely upset," he said. "By the intensity of the fire and how badly damaged the house is he's been very lucky to escape. "He's obviously thinking that the fire has been started by some sort of explosion involving the gas cylinder."
