The battle between the mayor
The gucci bags battle between the mayor and advocates for the city's mental health services has been a very public one since Emanuel announced his plan to shut down half of the city's mental health clinics in his 2012 budget.
In January, mental health advocates released a report detailing the "hidden costs" of consolidating the city's 12 clinics into six, a move they say disproportionately affects minorities. In the report, the Mental Health Movement points out that the closures will transfer at least 1,100 Medicaid patients to private providers, "effectively giving away federal reimbursement for these services."
Gov. Pat Quinn has defended the city's plans to downsize amid criticism. But Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart has been vocal about his opposition to the consolidations, arguing that limited access to mental gucci handbags health care is turning his jail into "the largest mental health provider in the state of Illinois."
The city notes that community mental health providers have been preparing to accomodate displaced patients, and insist that all current clients will be seamlessly transitioned to new care centers.
