Today's big story is a claim cheap moncler jackets that the family turns a blind eye toward the slave-labor conditions used to produce some of their merchandise, according to TMZ.
A human rights group is investigating claims that Chinese workers as young as 16 are working in squalid conditions to manufacture merchandise for the K-Dash by Kardashian label, the Kris Jenner Kollection and ShoeDazzle, according to a Star Magazine investigation.
That's right -- when we want tip-top investigative reporting, we all know to turn to Star Magazine. Radar Online ran a similar story.
The institute for Global Labour and Human Rights told TMZ that it's investigating claims the Kardashians' products are produced in factories reeking of stench from sewage, with temperatures north of 100 degrees. An official from the organization tells TMZ, conditions in the area are "horrific."
Which, perhaps not so coincidentally, is the word most sane people use in describing the Kardashians television show.
There are also claims the employees work up to 84 hours a week, earning $1 an hour. Just for fun, the Kardashians rake in something like $65 million a year before they start returning wedding gifts.
Kris Jenner told TMZ the factories in question manufacture products that are unrelated to Kardashian lines. Jenner adds,
"As far as I know the factories that are used to manufacture the Kardashian clothing and shoes have nothing terrible going on at all and the factories are very well policed and meet factory standards." Kris says she has not visited the factories in China.
Of course, neither has the guy investigating them.

The Recording Academy announced Wednesday the CEO and cofounder of Apple, who died Oct. 5 at age 56 of pancreatic cancer, is being posthumously honored with one of the organization's Special Merit Awards.
Jobs' specific Grammy falls under the Trustees Award category, which honor nonperformance contributions to recoded music.
There's also the Lifetime Achievement Award category, which includes such recipients as Glen Campbell, Allman Brothers Band, George Jones and Diana Ross.
A special ceremony will be held on Feb. 11, 2012, for all of this year's honorees, one day before the main Grammy Awards telecast from Los Angeles airing on CBS.
CAMERON DOUGLAS GETS MORE TIME: A judge called the imprisoned son of actor Michael Douglas reckless and irresponsible and upped his prison sentence Wednesday from five years to 9½ years for repeated drug offenses.
Wow. That'll wake a guy up.
U.S. District Judge Richard Berman in Manhattan cited Cameron Douglas' "history of reckless behavior" as he imposed a new punishment that was more than double what prosecutors were seeking. Douglas entered a guilty plea to drug charges that arose from his efforts to smuggle drugs into prison. Apparently the judge didn't like that.
Berman added 4½ years to the five-year term he gave Douglas last year for his guilty plea in connection with his sales of methamphetamine in July 2009 from a high-end Manhattan hotel.
The judge said he had never had a case before in which a defendant "has so recklessly, wantonly, flagrantly and criminally acted in such a destructive and manipulative fashion as Cameron Douglas has."

“Many of us on the public side had to deal with industry push-back, at times amplified by public coverage,” Mr. Hildebrand said. “One lesson that emerges is that the capacity of the financial industry to lobby for its short-term interests is far reaching.”

The debate centers on an international accord that most people outside the industry have never heard of, the so-called Basel III rules. The core issue and main point of dispute is capital — the money that banks accumulate through issuing stock and holding onto profits, money that they do not have to repay. The regulators want banks to finance their operations with more capital and less borrowed money. Advocates argue that the bigger the capital buffer, the greater the stability of the financial system. But financing operations from capital, rather than borrowing money, is less profitable, and that means lower bonuses moncler certilogo.

“In the financial crisis the banks got the upside and the public got the downside,” said Stephen G. Cecchetti, head of the monetary and economic department of the Bank for International Settlements, in Basel, Switzerland. In fact, the banks had badly underestimated the malignant potential of their holdings. Faulty regulation also worsened the European sovereign debt crisis, assigning government bonds virtually zero risk. That encouraged banks to extend billions in credit to countries like Greece and Italy, setting up a dangerous correlation between the solvency of countries and the health of banks. The thinking, in effect, was “Why imprison capital to insure against losses that were unlikely ever to happen?”

The technical term was “risk weighted assets.” It was as if a homeowner only had to make a down payment on the part of a house that might catch fire. Other parts of the property, like the swimming pool and the lawn, would not count.

The flaws in this model became obvious in the days after investment bank Lehman Brothers collapsed in 2008. Banks that appeared to be well capitalized discovered that they had hugely underestimated risk. The Packers’ offensive line, for now, may not belong in the top half of the league, but that is hardly a secret. The Giants, who came within a few minutes of beating the Packers two weeks ago, were able to pressure Rodgers, too. Play the run on the way to the passer, and the Packers’ opponents can control the line of scrimmage.

That makes what Rodgers has accomplished all the more remarkable. Until the Chiefs game, the Packers had not even trailed in the fourth quarter this season. That is testament to Rodgers’s extraordinary decision-making, his ability to unload the football quickly and to augment his game by throwing on the move.

But Crennel, who earned points in his pursuit of the top job with the victory, unleashed outside linebacker Tamba Hali, who sacked Rodgers three times and harassed him plenty more. Rodgers looked more uncomfortable than he had all season as the Packers struggled to block, well, everything. The Packers did not change their plan and start rushing more, even though Ryan Grant appeared to be running well, finishing with 66 yards on just 12 carries.

Is that a blueprint? Sure, but it is hardly new. Every team tries to disrupt every elite quarterback. The Chiefs managed to do it, holding Rodgers to a season-low 235 passing yards and the Packers’ top-ranked scoring offense to 14 points, three touchdowns below its average.

“We set the tone on both sides of the ball,” Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson said. “This is the great thing about football. You can’t always look at the records because you’ve got grown men out there who are all getting paid. You don’t have to be better on paper.”

The Packers’ final two regular-season opponents are Chicago and Detroit, each capable of overwhelming an offensive line. Those games will probably tell the league much more about whether the Chiefs’ blueprint is repeatable. The Packers need only one victory or one San Francisco loss to secure the top seed, so their primary goal now is to get as healthy as they can before the playoffs begin. The Packers, after all, have a blueprint they can follow, too: the one they used last season to win the Super Bowl with 15 players on injured reserve.

The former coach Brian Billick thought back to a book he had in which Knute Rockne said that if you could be good in only one part of the game, make it offense. Then the team never gives up hope.

“It’s indicative of what we’ve talked about all season: the explosion of offense,” Billick said. “Because of the capabilities of so many teams, you’re never out of it.”

But the former coach Herman Edwards, now an ESPN analyst, sees something on the other side of the ball, too. Fatigue may be leading to errors, he said, and fatigue may be one of the predicted results of the lockout that is finally coming to fruition. Billick scoffs, but Edwards says he thinks the lack of appropriate conditioning in the off-season is catching up to players.

“Mentally, guys are breaking down, and then fundamentals break down,” Edwards said. “With the read offense, you play the whole field, not just inside the numbers. Big guys can’t be switched out. Secondary guys get fatigued if it’s a no-huddle, fast-break offense.”

Even practices are problematic because as players are injured, teams cannot practice normally.

Texans’ Loss May Resonate

Think Houston’s loss to the Carolina Panthers was not damaging because the Texans had clinched the A.F.C. South? The Texans were in position for a first-round bye. Now they could finish with the third seed, behind the Patriots and the winner of the A.F.C. North, the Baltimore Ravens or the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Texans would still get a home game, but they would play on wild-card weekend, and extra games are bad news for a team with a rookie quarterback and a pile of injuries.

Tebow Mania Ebbs

What to make of Tim Tebow now that the Patriots have quieted — at least for a few days — the din surrounding him?

“You can’t win a championship this way, but you can win a lot of games,” Brian Billick said of the Broncos’ strategy with Tebow at quarterback.

That is why the tentative signs that Tebow’s passing game is improving late in the season are so critical. The Broncos are in good position to go to the playoffs. But there, they will find more teams that are capable of scoring a lot of points and capitalizing on the Broncos’ errors. A deep playoff run seems as unlikely as Tebow’s recent success.

But if John Elway’s planned intensive off-season tutorial with Tebow can improve his passing enough, he could become more like Cam Newton: a true dual threat. As long as John Fox is the coach, the Broncos are unlikely to be anything but a run-first offense, anyway, and that plays to Tebow’s strengths.
